Directions
Make the Meatballs
Make the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, salt, nutmeg, clove, garlic, pepper, and egg. Mix gently until just combined (don’t overwork the meat).
Roll into medium-sized meatballs, about 1–1½ inches in diameter.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add tallow, oil, or butter to cover the bottom of the pan. Brown the meatballs on all sides until cooked almost through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
2. Make the Sauce
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
Slowly whisk in the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Let it simmer and thicken for 2-3 minutes.
Stir in the sour cream and heavy cream. Add nutmeg, salt, garlic, and ground pepper. Simmer until smooth and creamy.
3. Finish
Return the meatballs to the skillet and spoon sauce over them. Let simmer for 10-15 minutes so the flavors meld together and the meatballs finish cooking.
Serve warm over mashed potatoes, enjoy!
